CHICAGO!!

Late June - Early July 2009

Since Donnie was overseas for the ENTIRE summer... the boys and I decided to have a three week visit up in the Chicago suburbs at my parents', which is ALWAYS a good time!

July 2nd - Today was my mom's 60th birthday... the boys & I were SO happy to be able to spend it with her and the rest of the family. My older brother, Rob, and his soon-to-be-fiancee, Amy, flew out from Vegas, and my youngest brother, Mark, came up from school at University of Illinois. It was the first time we've all been together since Christmas two years ago.

Kaden & Kaleb LOVED that they were able to help Grandmom blow out her candles.

My younger brother, Greg

Earlier that day, we all went canoeing at a local forest preserve. We rented three canoes with three people in each... it was SO fun!!

Greg's girlfriend, Alexsondra, came too. It was my first time meeting her and we hit it off SO well!! Her and I took Kaden with us in our canoe. She is in front, and I had the back... we made a great team! =)

My baby brother, Mark
He's graduating this December with his Master's in Engineering... SO proud of him!!

It was SO funny watching Greg, Mark and Sky! You would think they would be doing circles around us... but that was DEFINITELY not the case! Alexsondra & I just about died laughing as we sped past, listening to Greg & Mark argue about rowing techniques. Classic!

My mom & dad took Kaleb out, so they had the slow and easy canoe. They went off in an opposite direction and we didn't see them until it was time to bring the canoes back in. Kaleb wanted to get out of the canoe and explore so they pulled to shore a few times. He had SUCH a GREAT time with Grandmom & Papa!!!

It doesn't look like it in this photo... but Sky was SO glad he got to go in Uncle Greg & Uncle Mark's canoe so he could hang out with the big guys.

Alexsondra & Kaden, doing their thing!! =)

Rob & Amy stayed back at my parents' house and took a nap while we went... they were tired from their late flight.

After we got back, we all had a barbeque. It was so good to see Amy again... I haven't seen her since I was in Vegas last April and wished her & Rob could've been able to stay longer than just three days. But Rob needed to get back to work, the courtroom was calling. =(

July 4th - The Fourth of July is one of the boys' favorite holidays... they LOVE fireworks and watermelon!!

Here they are having a watermelon eating contest. They had at least FOUR of them while we were there. =)

We had another barbeque and several friends came over to join us. It was great to see some old friends I grew up with I haven't seen in a while!! My brother, Greg, and his friends brought some fireworks to my parent's house... there is a park and huge field behind our house where they set them off. Once it got dark, we walked down to watch the city fireworks.

When we got back from watching the fireworks, Kaleb was amazed at all the fireflies. We don't have them in the south... so I was able to relive some of my childhood and ran around helping him catch some. I remember Greg & I had a glass jar with holes in its lid. We would catch SO many of them... and let them all go when it was time to go inside to get ready for bed. =)

Kaleb SQUEALED when he finally caught one on his own.

July 11th - My mom & I took the boys to Farmer For A Day. They had a BLAST milking cows, lifting bales of hay, feeding pigs and watching two ladies make butter. Before we left we bought some old-fashioned lemon drops and homemade soy candles... SO fun!!

July 15th - Today my mom & I took the three boys to the waterpark at their Recreation Center. It's a really nice park with three really high slides, a lazy river, a high dive, a tidal and a regular pool. This waterpark is right next door to the spray park... which has giant whales, towers and flowers that spray water as the kids run through. There is also a big sand area with little water mills and water tables to play with. We had a great time visiting both parks a few times while we were there.

July 17th - Today Greg, Alexsondra, Mark, Mark's friend Robert and I spent the day and evening downtown Chicago.

The weather was gorgeous... we really enjoyed walking around and talking. We had dinner on Navy Pier and went to Ex Calibur for a Supernatural show. The show was really interesting, telling us about unusual events that happened in Chicago history with a spooky twist. Alexsondra was REALLY spooked when Greg ended up with the 'cursed coin' during one of the tricks. Good thing she had me, the skeptic, to talk her out of worrying over my brother's demise. Haha!!

Afterwards, we went up to the club and danced our little hearts out. We met our old friend, Ashley, there... it was SO good to see her!!

During our visit, Alexsondra and I went to the Country Thunder concert and had a great time seeing Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift and several others. I got to know Alexsondra really well while we were there visiting. She quickly became a dear friend and I have my fingers crossed that Greg will make her my sister-in-law in the future!! =)

It was a GREAT day in the city... I can't wait to do it again!!!

The boys and I had such a good time in Chicago... it was REALLY hard to come home this time!! While we were there, I was also able to reconnect with several childhood and high school friends... I can't wait to see them all again! It's a bit sad when I think about Mark moving to southern California after he graduates. We are SO torn deciding whether we will move out west or stay in the south when Donnie retires from the Army... thank goodness we have PLENTY of time to decide. What we would give to have both sides of our family living nearby!! At least we'll always have nice places to visit no matter where we settle!

Our Big Boy's Learning To Ride...

Friday, April 10, 2009

When Kaleb & I got home from school today, Donnie had Kaleb's training wheels taken off of his bike and all his protective gear laid out. With Donnie's hand on the back of his seat the whole time, Kaleb made it down the street about four houses and was ready to turn around and go back. Little legs get tired quickly!

A Fun Weekend in Tennessee...

Saturday, April 4, 2009

We spent the weekend in the mountains of Tennessee with Donnie's sister, Ursula, and her hubby, Keith. Keith competes professionally in motocross... which has become all three of the boys fascination. Sky & Kaden will be getting their own bikes soon, but to them not soon enough!

Urs & Keith bought the boys motocross shirts... and they didn't take them off the entire weekend!

Sky spent the ENTIRE weekend on a bike, literally. We saw him for meals... and that was IT! Keith said he put well over 120 miles on it... which would have brought him back down to Atlanta from where we were in TN!!

Keith is SUCH a stud!!!!

Biker Babes

Donnie spent almost as much time riding as Sky did. Did I forget to mention Donnie & I are getting bikes too? =)

Kaleb just could not go high or fast enough. Look closely at that little face of joy!!

Kaden can't get enough either!!

Of course, I had to take a turn too... although, Keith rides SO fast I was a little scared!

We rode off to a waterfall and dropoff. Keith teased Kaleb saying we were going to get on the bikes and jump over to the other side... but Kaleb thought it was a great idea. On the way back, he asked Keith to do a wheelie the whole way... a bit tough, even for Keith.

Aunt Ursula riding Kaleb

Sky got on the 150 for the first time without any trouble, even though the bike weighs more than twice his weight, & headed straight for the big boy track. We all are COMPLETELY blown away at what a natural he is!!

Keith is at it again!

You CAN'T go camping without having a bonfire... and making s'mores!!! =)

Urs & Keith

I'm SO fortunate to have such a great sis-in-law!

Our last day there, Urs & Keith got such a kick out of it when the boys started throwing around their random 'I love you's'... hahaha, I guess Donnie & I just consider that to be typical. It was really cute though when Kaden said, 'I love everyone in this camper, even you, Hayden!' (Urs & Keith's playful pitbull =) Hanging out with the Wilsons is ALWAYS guaranteed to be a good time! And as sore and tired as we were after we got home Monday evening, we can't wait to do it again!!

Returned From Great Britain...

Cardiff Castle Clock Tower, Wales

Donnie just got home from England & Wales. While he was there, he was fortunate to have time to do some shopping and sightseeing. He came home with some really neat gifts... including the BIGGEST bug-eyed sunglasses I've ever seen, apparently all the Welch girls wear them! Haha... I do love them though!! I asked him to take a bunch of photos for me, here's my favorites...

Donnie & his friends had to get a photo in front of an old red English phonebooth, and actually searched for one.

I'm so glad Donnie had such a good time... he had some great stories to share with me. Apparently, the London marathon is every April... so he wants the two of us to go run it in 2011. I guess I better start training now!!

These photos are just BEAUTIFUL!!!

Happy Birthday, Shelly!!!

Saturday, March 28, 2009

We love getting together with several of our ward friends for bbqs... there's something about fun conversation and good food. Shelly let the cat out of bag and told me her birthday was next Wednesday... so I had no choice but to pull one over on her by having the bbq in her honor. Her hubby, Jason, and I filled my house with 50 pink balloons... which all the kids had a BLAST kicking around... pink streamers and I made a yummy chocolate raspberry cake (with some helping hands that added 2 tubs of frosting and white chocolate to drizzle over the top =). We even made her wear a tiara! It was SO much fun!!! I wish I would've gotten a photo of the look on Shelly's face once she walked in my door and saw what we were up to! =)

My fun playdate girls... Shelly, Leiah and Erin. Just a few more weeks, ladies... and we'll be back at it, soaking in some sun rays!!

I am so happy to have Shelly & Jason living just down the street from us! We get together and have so much fun... and best buddies Kaden & Braydon LOVE it!!! Although, I need to keep Donnie away from beautiful little Ambria... because he's always picking her up giving me those puppy eyes. I swear, he's dreaming in pink WAY worse than I am!!! (He's still in England... so I played the 7th wheel today. Lol!!)

Leiah & James also live in the neighborhood... so we're doubly spoiled. Leiah is a good friend to have when you like food... she brings the BEST dishes to our bbqs. I literally have cravings for her homemade bread!! Not to mention, I can't get enough of their two daughters! It's great having them over to balance out all the testosterone floating around!!

Aaron & Erin don't live in our subdivision, but are so sweet to drive way out into the country for our bbqs... that must mean we're really cool. =) Getting Jason & Aaron together is a riot... I love hearing their flying stories!

Shelly, you have been such a great friend... one I've had to count on a time or two, and you've never let me down. I really hope we all were able to show you how appreciative we are for all that you do!!!! xoxo

A Day Playing Hooky....

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Kaleb has been home from school for the last 3 days now because he came down with a fever & bronchitis early Sunday morning. Thank goodness, his fever finally broke this morning and he's starting to be himself again... although a bit crankier and still isn't eating much.

I LOVE his little toes!!!

So while Sky & Kaden were working hard in school... Kaleb & I decided to enjoy the gorgeous 80 degree sunshine, and jumped on the trampoline for a little while.

It's so funny how much air Kaleb can get when he jumps with either me or Donnie... he usually ends up on his rear!! Haha!!!

Even though Kaleb wasn't feeling well... it was really nice to be home with him, like the good ole days. And a day of hooky, every now and then, never hurts!!
