Auburn Madness!!!!

Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008

My classes at Auburn University started about 3 weeks ago, and as you can imagine life has been going FULL SPEED ever since!! I knew I was going to be busy, considering Donnie is away... but I had no idea just HOW busy!!! To define it... I had to read a 9 pg. chapter the other night, and with interruptions, it took me a whole 4 HOURS to complete it! And Kaden hasn't even started football practice yet, yikes!! My commute up to Auburn is 50 miles so we recently traded my minivan in for a cute little red hatchback, that has turned out to be the perfect commuter car... GOT to LOVE the 35 miles per gallon!!!

When I went for my orientation, I couldn't help but be COMPLETELY overwhelmed because the campus is enormous... after parking, I actually have to take a shuttle to where the buildings are!! But it's incredibly beautiful!!!! I think I've finally gotten the hang of it... but thankfully, so far, my classes have only been in three different buildings.

Auburn was established in 1856 and has developed into one of the largest universities in the south. It's also ranked as one of the Top 100 Colleges in the country... so I feel VERY blessed to be able to attend and be a part of this tradition!! I do laugh outloud though when I drive around & see other cars sporting four different magnets, flags on BOTH sides of the car & bumper and window stickers. Now THAT'S showing school spirit!! :)

As you've probably been wondering... I transferred in with 138 units (a full degree) and am considered a senior, but will be for another 2 - 2 1/2 years as I complete my Elementary Education classes. Now at most schools, the age of students is becoming a lot more diverse. Although, I can't help but notice... everyone walking around looks as though they are BARELY 18 (and when I begin graduate school, I'll be complaining about all the young 25-year-olds :) !!! So I feel like quite the old granny!!! In my microeconomics class of 650 students, not a ONE of them understood the professor's joke when he told them to 'raise their hand if they're SURE.' Well... that is EXCEPT ME... as I sang the song of the commercial in my head for the rest of the day!!!!!! :)

Those of you who know me well, KNOW I am NOT a football fan... AT ALL!!! Although, as I'm sure you can imagine Auburn is a HUGE football school! Not only is the team really good... but COME ON, IT'S THE SOUTH!!! I ignorantly told a friend I could get him tickets... only to find out later they were already sold out before I even registered for my classes. Last Friday was the day before the opening game, there were HUNDREDS of RV's parked everywhere and students were camped out throughout the campus to reserve their tailgating spots. I just laughed because not only could I NOT get him tickets, but I couldn't have even saved him a piece of grass!!! Needless to say... I have since become a football fan and proudly sport a modest AU sticker in my back window (it was VERY hard, but I resisted putting up flags too... haha, SOOOO kidding!!! ;). By the way, in case you were wondering... Auburn won their opening game 34-0!!!!! WAR EAGLE!!!!!!!!
